The Next 40
Family and friends,
As I turn 40 this week, I realize my life has come to a crossroads. I can continue to serve my neighbors by taking care of them one-by-one as a physician or I can redefine for myself what it means to serve my community. After years of thought, discussion, and planning, I am opting to redefine my sense of service by asking for the honor of representing my community and my neighbors on a broader level.
As of today, I am officially announcing my candidacy for the Colorado State House of Representatives in District 5. The decision to run for public office has not been one I have taken lightly, nor has it been easy. But it is clear to me that my patients, my friends, my neighbors and even my children could benefit from much more than what I can offer in the confines of an office visit: a prescription and some personal counseling.
Rather, my patients have been clear that in order to truly impact the health of our communities, in order for all of us to live healthily, we need:
- Access to our world-class health care systems;
- Strong and empowered schools for our children; and
- Sustainable economic growth that supports an equitable and fair wage for our families.
You can help create a healthier Colorado by supporting our campaign. As there are others also campaigning for this seat, an early donation of $400 dollars would help me reach out to 1,000 of my neighbors by mail; $300 would purchase 100 yard signs; $100 allows me to contact over 5,000 of my neighbors by phone; and $50 dollars would let us host a town-hall meeting.
I would also welcome you to join us as we reach out to our neighbors by hosting a house party, a fundraising event, or by spending some time with us stuffing envelopes, making calls, or meeting our neighbors face-to-face as we walk the district this summer.

Finally, we will be hosting a campaign kickoff in early May. The details will follow, but I would love to see as many of you there as possible.
I have been humbled to serve my neighbors for years as a doctor; you can join me in honoring them back by helping me to become a physician legislator.
