Colorado will soon join a majority of states in allowing the legal distribution of clean syringes in exchange for used ones to help combat communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C. A bill authored by Sen. Pat Steadman and passed by the Senate in April passed its final hurdle May 6 when the Colorado House of Representatives voted 57-6, with substantial bipartisan support, to make it law. Gov. Bill Ritter is expected to sign the legislation.

UFCW LOCAL 7 ENDORSES MARK THRUN IN HOUSE DISTRICT 5 RACE

Apr12

I am thrilled to report that the majority of delegates in house district 5 voted for me in the Denver County Democratic Assembly this past weekend!  Despite the fact that there were four competitors in the race, I was able to secure 53% of the total vote.  This assures the top line on the Primary ballot and is a sign of our growing momentum.

I am honored and humbled by the support of so many people, have thoroughly enjoyed meeting my neighbors, and look forward to the Primary election in August.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to caucus on March 16th.   That evening, neighbor joined neighbor to debate and vote on the candidates for Senate, State Senate, and our State House race.

An even bigger thank you to all those that supported Mark that evening.  He had enormous support across the district and is very much looking forward to the County Assembly on April 10th.

Finally, kudos to Jason Krueger and Adam Platt for writing about their caucus experience in the Statesman.

Family and friends,

As I turn 40 this week, I realize my life has come to a crossroads.  I can continue to serve my neighbors by taking care of them one-by-one as a physician or I can redefine for myself what it means to serve my community.  After years of thought, discussion, and planning, I am opting to redefine my sense of service by asking for the honor of representing my community and my neighbors on a broader level.

Decades ago, I committed my life to serving my community through my career. Years ago, I committed myself to serving my neighbors in urban Denver though my many volunteer efforts. This year, I committed to serving to my friends and family in district 5 by running for the Colorado state house.

This week, the field of candidates in my campaign expanded to a total of four people. With your help, however, that field will be narrowed to one next year and this doctor, sworn under oath to serving his fellow humans, will be sworn in at the Capitol.
